Orthodontics is the specialist area of dentistry concerned with the development of the jaws and teeth. It aims to diagnose, prevent and treat dental and facial irregularities. Orthodontic treatment aims to guide the teeth into the correct positions so that they look good in the face as a whole and bite together well.

If the main goal of the treatment is the dental displacement, most commonly a fixed multi bracket therapy is used. In this case orthodontic wires are inserted into dental braces, which can be made from stainless steel or a more esthetic ceramic material.

A malocclusion, meaning "bad bite. are crowded teeth, extra teeth, missing teeth or jaws that are out of alignment. Most malocclusions are inherited, although some can be acquired or caused by accidents, early or late loss of baby teeth, or sucking of the thumb or fingers for a prolonged period of time. A custom treatment plan is outlined for each patient. The specific treatment appliance best suited to correct the patient's orthodontic problem is constructed..
